Longtime pop-up at Country Club Plaza relocating to Leawood’s Town Center next year
A year ago, a mother-daughter retail team opened a holiday pop-up on the Country Club Plaza.
Array A Collection of Shops is still operating at 235 W. 47th St., next to Shake Shack, selling junior and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories.
But not for long.
It will close in late January and reopen in February at 5230 W. 119th St. in Leawood’s Town Center Plaza, near the metro’s other Shake Shack.
“The Plaza has a lot of tourism, and we want to reach more of the local people than just tourists,” said Carolyn Richmond, who owns the shop with daughter Ellie Ruby. “We’ve been on Leawood’s list for years, as long as a place opened on the south side and a space opened up. We’re sad we are leaving the Plaza but extremely excited to come to Leawood.”
The mother daughter duo first opened Fortuity as a Plaza pop-up in summer 2010. Then they had permanent locations in Columbia, Lawrence and Manhattan, as well as a First Friday weekend pop-up at their Crossroads warehouse. They returned to the Plaza with pop-ups in different spots before opening Array a year ago.
Array is a collective of more than a dozen boutiques, mostly locally-owned and including Fortuity. Its inventory ranges from “running around” clothes to wedding attire.
“They pay us a monthly rent plus a small percentage of sales. We do all the staffing, marketing. We do the trash. Glamour, right?” Richmond said. “They have no overhead and get to do what they love — the buying. This way we can reach more customers — different sizes, different ages. We don’t carry a lot of crossover.”
