Midtown Ethiopian & Caribbean restaurant will move into Krokstrom space, expand menu

After shutting down in midtown in July, Mesob has found a new home just across the street.

The Caribbean and Ethiopian restaurant plans to open at 3601 Broadway in November, in the former home of Krokstrom Scandinavian Comfort Food.

Partner and chef Cherven Desauguste was raised in Haiti and moved to Miami around 1990, where he went to culinary school.

“Then I worked at tons of places - resorts, catering companies, you name it,” he said.

He moved to the Kansas City area two decades ago and worked in corporate chef positions.

He first opened Mesob with Mehret Tesfamariam on Independence Avenue before relocating to the former Valentine Shopping Center, 3600 Broadway, in 2014. The center is being redeveloped, so the restaurant closed in July.

Now they will revamp the menu for the new location with plans to offer about a dozen Ethiopian and a dozen Caribbean items, along with some weekly specials and Sunday brunch. The menu will include bouillabaisse and coconut curry shrimp.

Krokstrom closed Sunday, Oct. 27.
