Less than a year after opening in Brookside, Brookside Barrio Mexican Kitchen & Bar has announced plans for a south Kansas City location.

The locally owned operation is taking a 5,000-square-foot space in the redeveloped Red Bridge Shopping Center at Holmes Road and Red Bridge Road. It also will have patio seating when it opens in spring 2019, next to Crows Coffee.

Chris Ridler and Luke Pickett opened the original location at 6227 Brookside Plaza in Brookside in February. It serves classic Mexican dishes and specialty tacos seven days a week.

Menu items include ceviche, chicken wings in Valentina sauce, carne asada kabobs, cilantro red snapper, street tacos, duck carnitas, black bean burgers, pineapple chorizo burgers, kale and arugula shrimp salads, and taco salads.

In a statement, Council Member Scott Taylor, said, “Brookside Barrio is yet another cool, local restaurant that will contribute to the Red Bridge momentum.”

Red Bridge Shopping Center is currently undergoing redevelopment, led by LANE4 Property Group. New tenants include Blue Moose Bar & Grill and Crows Coffee.

Caleb’s Breakfast and Lunch will open soon, along with a 30,000-square-foot Wonderscope Children’s Museum.

The center is currently 94 percent leased.
