What are the most common restaurant violations in Kansas City?
Westport's Californos restaurant has temporarily closed due to "numerous imminent health hazards."
In a statement, the Kansas City Missouri Health Department said it is "currently investigating a large number of reports from individuals that became ill after attending two large events catered by Californos. One event was at their location and one was an off-site event. We have been provided with the list of event attendees from the organizers and will be interviewing all who attended or worked the event. The organizers of the events and Californos are cooperating with the department during this investigation. This is a complex investigation that will take time and a significant hours of staff time to potentially determine the cause. The restaurant and catering service will remain closed until further notice."
The department found 10 critical violations during an April 4 inspection following a complaint.
The family-owned restaurant at 4124 Pennsylvania Ave. celebrated its 30th anniversary on St. Patrick's Day.
The restaurant issued this statement: "We are fully cooperating with the city and look forward to serving customers for another 30 years."
