Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams was founded 26 years ago in North Carolina to service a select group of loyal customers throughout the country.

But its signature look — described as relaxed, modern style, elegant and easy to live with, a balance of hip and traditional — kept winning over more and more customers. Now its line is sold in home furnishing retailers nationwide and at the company’s 26 Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams stores. One of them is set to open at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Leawood’s Town Center Crossing.

Its new 10,000-square-foot store at 4563 W. 119th St. offers upholstered and slipcovered furniture, armoires, beds, dining tables, chests, coffee tables, lighting, area rugs, accessories, artwork, an exclusive bespoke bed linen collection and more.

The store has “entire room vignettes where they can get ideas and translate that in their homes — add a chair, take away a chair, change the colors,” said Mitchell Gold, who was at the Leawood store Tuesday to help kick things off.

The company offers about 350 fabrics and 150 leather choices, including durable pet-friendly and child-friendly materials. Blues, grays, white and a touch of gold are the current featured colors in the spring collection, and that will change when its fall collection appears. Sofas can start at $1,400 and range up to its Fiona Super Luxe Sleeper sofa, which starts at $4,990.

Much of the merchandise on the selling floor will be in stock. Customers, as well as the design trade, also can custom-order pieces that will be delivered in six weeks — in most situations — from its North Carolina factory.

It also has stores in such cities as Beverly Hills, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Miami, New York, St. Louis and Washington. The founders, Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, said they selected Town Center Crossing because they wanted to be surrounded by other dynamic retailers like their new Leawood neighbors, the Apple Store and the North Italia restaurant.
