Mission’s new Cornerstone Commons is taking shape.

The project, on the former Keystone car dealership at 6819 Johnson Drive, will include a 15,000-square-foot Natural Grocers on the west side fronting Johnson Drive, with a late summer opening planned. A 4,000-square-foot building on the east side will house Pie Five Pizza Co. and Potbelly Sandwich Shop for October or November openings.

A parking lot will separate the two buildings.

In the back of the property, a 12,100-square-foot, two-story building will house PepperJax Grill and Five Guys Burgers and Fries on the first floor.

Christie Development Associates LLC, developer/owner of Cornerstone Commons, said the second floor is designed for high-end office use with several outdoor decks overlooking the site and available to lease.

PepperJax expansion

Along with the new Mission location, which is scheduled to open in early fall, PepperJax Grill is expanding throughout the metro area.

A location opened March 27 at 1855 N. Ridgeview Road in Olathe. A Blue Springs restaurant opens Friday and two Northland locations are in the works.

Menu items include made-to-order phillies, gourmet rice bowls, giant burritos, loaded nachos and fresh salads.

Restaurant openings

▪ The locally owned Keg & Barrel has opened in a 7,600-square-foot space at 14893 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Rookies Sports Grille formerly occupied the space.

Menu items include smoked meat sandwiches, Smoked Pulled Pork & Bayou Burger, ribs, fish and chips, strip steak dinners, and wings. It also has a game room and a patio, and the venue offers live music on the weekends.

Retail openings

▪ Home furnishings retailer Arhaus has set a May 22 opening for its new 17,000-square-foot, two-story furniture store in Leawood.

The freestanding store is now under construction in Town Center Plaza , 5300 W. 119th St., between Bristol Seafood Grill and On the Border Mexican Grill.

When it opens, Arhaus will feature “lifestyle vignettes” of handcrafted furniture and accessories, including sofas, sectionals and chairs in a choice of leather or fabric, dining tables and chairs, outdoor furniture, bedroom furniture and private-label bedding, wall units and media centers, tableware, rugs, lighting, drapery and seasonal items.

But the showcases also will be “infused with the unexpected” — perhaps antiques from Indonesia and Paris, fresh florals and hand-painted murals.

It will be the 55th location for the Cleveland-based retailer. The grand opening is scheduled for June 4.

▪ The Irvine, Calif.-based Boot Barn plans an April opening for its new Olathe store.

Boot Barn was founded in 1978 and now has more than 150 stores in 24 states, including one in Blue Springs.

The stores offer western and work wear, including more than 8,000 styles of boots, jeans, shirts, belts, hats and jewelry. Brands include Wrangler, Ariat, Justin, Carhartt, Dr. Marten, Dan Post, Resistol, Montana Silversmith, Miss Me, Wolverine, Timberland and Tony Lama.

The new 10,470-square-foot Olathe Boot Barn, at 15185 W. 119th St., is scheduled to have a soft opening in mid-April and a grand opening April 24-26.
