West Side’s ‘raw and vegan’ Fud restaurant temporarily closes

Seven years after opening on the West Side, Füd (pronounced “food”) has temporarily closed.

In a statement, Heidi VanPelt-Belle said the restaurant would reopen soon after a restructuring and repairs.

She founded the company in 2007 “out of a need for clean, consciously grown, and organically produced food in the greater Kansas City area.”

It started as a pop-up in a Crossroads farmers market and also a catering operation. VanPelt-Belle also taught classes on “raw-living foods” before opening the restaurant at 813 W. 17th St. in early 2010.

It served such items as portabella fries, apple kale salad, chili bowls with sun-dried tomatoes and diced peppers, and taco wraps with cashew cheddar.
