Locally owned Empanada Madness opening a second location in south Kansas City
Four years after opening on Southwest Boulevard, Empanada Madness will open its second location.
Owners Marcial and Patricia Trujillo and their daughter, Andrea Hall, have taken spaces at 13135 to 13137 State Line Road and plan to open the restaurant on Sept. 3, on the anniversary of the opening at 906 Southwest Blvd.
“I grew up in the area and went to Center High School so this area feels like home,” Hall said. “And the 1313 in the address is a lucky number, for sure. It follows us in a lot of places. At functions we’ll be at table 13, Salvy is No. 13 and he’s the No. 1 fan of the restaurant.”
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez was one of their first customers and is now considered part of their family, they said.
The new south Kansas City restaurant will serve the same menu — arepa, nachos, Yuka Loca, Hallaca and empanadas of course — but also more entrees and alcohol.
The owner of another local favorite, Jarocho Authentic Mexican Seafood in Kansas City, Kan., recently opened Jarocho South at 13145 State Line Road.
