Vineyard Vines opening on the Plaza

Vineyard Vines, known for its preppy line of clothing and pink whale logo, is expanding in this market with a Country Club Plaza store.

It is taking a 3,825-square-foot space at 4700 Broadway, former home of A/X Armani Exchange. Vineyard Vines plans a June opening.

The retailer was founded in 1998 on Martha’s Vineyard by brothers Shep and Ian Murray. They said they were miserable sitting behind desks at their Manhattan jobs so they decided to “trade in their business suits for bathing suits,” selling ties so they wouldn’t have to wear them.

The stores now sell “preppy, energetic and fun clothing and accessories” for men, women and children, including polo shirts emblazoned with the company’s logo.

The multimillion dollar corporation has more than 50 stores nationwide and plans to open as many as 15 stores this year.

Halls Kansas City in Crown Center also carries the line. Pinstripes on the Country Club Plaza had previously carried Vineyard Vines but now carries a similar line, Southern Tide.

Express Factory Outlet opens

Express Factory Outlet has opened in the Legends Outlets Kansas City.

The 7,061-square-foot store, at 1837 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kan., offers an assortment of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories at discounted prices. It is the company’s first factory store in Kansas. It has a Missouri location in Branson.

Tommy Hilfiger had formerly occupied the space but closed at the end of 2014.

Other tenants coming to the Legends include:

▪ Verizon Wireless will open in a new freestanding location at 10621 Parallel Parkway, on the north side of the Legends, in early summer.

▪ A four-story, 108-room Residence Inn with studio, one- and two-bedroom suites is scheduled to open this fall. It will be at 1875 Village West Parkway on the west side of Legends.

▪ A new multitenant building is planned at 1703 Village West Parkway. Proposed tenants include Noodles & Company, Visionworks and Mattress Firm.

▪ Fuddruckers confirmed in September that it would take the former Cheeseburger in Paradise building at 1705 Village West Parkway. The company has not provided any updates since then. Officials couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.

Yard House sets opening in Power & Light

Yard House plans an April 25 opening in the Power & Light District.

The nearly 12,500-square-foot restaurant and bar, at 1300 Main St., will have an open floor plan featuring a mix of warm woods with stainless steel accents. A glass-enclosed keg room, kept at 34 to 36 degrees, will house as much as 4,000 gallons of beer at one time.

Yard House will offer 130 beers on tap, including 32 selections from Kansas and Missouri breweries such as Boulevard Brewing Co., Cinder Block Brewery and Kansas City Bier Co. The Chalkboard Series will be five hand-picked draft selections rotating frequently. Menu items will include grilled burgers, tacos, steaks, seafood, salads and ribs.

Yard House, which was founded in 1996, has 58 locations with another opening in Indianapolis next week. The Kansas City location will be the 60th for the chain.

Yard House also has an area location in the Legends Outlets.
