‘No-frills’ grocery store opening in Olathe

Balls Food Stores in Kansas City, Kan., is launching a new grocery store concept in Olathe.

Payless Discount Foods is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the former Balls Price Chopper at 2101 E. Santa Fe St., at 135th and Mur-Len Road.

Payless takes a page from Price Choppers’ roots as a ‘no-frills’ operation. Customers will sack their own groceries and the store will not take credit cards to keep prices low. Items will include fresh meat and produce, canned and boxed goods, pet food, and cleaning supplies.

The Price Chopper pharmacy will continue to operate in the location.

The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
