Sprint takes former Apple spot on the Plaza, Insomnia Cookies opens in Power & Light
▪ Sprint has confirmed that it will take the former Apple store space at 4712 Broadway on the Country Club Plaza. The Sprint store is scheduled to open Nov. 18 with 10 employees.
Sprint also has doubled the size of its Town Center Plaza store at 4901 Town Center Drive in Leawood.
Tim Donahue, regional president for Kansas and Missouri, said the company has increased retail store staff by 20 percent this year, compared to 2015. It also has seen a 40 percent year-over-year gross increase this year compared to the same period in 2015.
In a statement, a Plaza spokeswoman would not confirm the Sprint lease, referring questions to Sprint.
Apple opened in the space in 2004 but in August it relocated to a new expanded space in Plaza 211, formerly Halls Plaza.
▪ Insomnia Cookies has opened its second area shop.
The fresh baked cookie chain took a space at 54 E. 14th St. in the Power & Light District. It offers a variety of cookies, including chocolate chunk, Snickerdoodles, chocolate peanut butter cup, and S’mores Deluxe, as well as cookie cakes and brownies with such topping as cookie dough and peanut butter chips, and ice cream and ice cream Cookiewich. It also offers delivery in the area from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily.
The shop entered the market with a Westport store in January.
