▪ Former Raytown residents founded Andy's Frozen Custard nearly 30 years ago with a mission to use only the freshest ingredients.
John and Carol Kuntz opened the first Andy’s in Osage Beach, Mo., naming it after their son Andy, who is now president and chief executive officer of the Springfield-based company.
It currently has 23 locations in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Illinois — 14 corporate owned and nine owned by franchisees.
Andy’s is now targeting Kansas City. A new company-owned freestanding Andy’s with drive-through is going up at 1200 Westport Road and is scheduled to open in late April or early May.

The company also has a former gas station under contract at 10641 State Line Road, just south of QuikTrip that is scheduled to open by late summer. And it is looking at three other locations in the metro with plans to have five stores opened by mid-2016 and then a couple more opening each year after until it has 10 to 15 locations.
It offers vanilla and chocolate flavors but also can create variety of combinations using toppings — chocolate chip cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, Bordeaux cherry chip, hot fudge brownie, and butter pecan.
Other menu items include old-fashioned sodas and freezes, malts, shakes, floats, the Turtle Split (vanilla frozen custard and a whole banana covered with hot fudge, crème caramel, roasted pecans and topped with a cherry), Butter Pecan Concrete (vanilla frozen custard blended with butterscotch and roasted pecans), Zarlengo’s Italian Ice, and custard bars.
▪ Keg & Barrel Grill & Spirits, a new sports bar with game room and live music, is coming to Overland Park’s Edgewater Crossing.
Mick Newell and his wife Janeann MacDonald plan to close their Freddy T’s Bar & Grill in Olathe on March 8 and then open Keg & Barrel in mid-March in a 7,600-square-foot space at 14893 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Rookies Sports Grille formerly occupied the space. Menu items will include wings, barbecue and burgers.
Another Freddy T’s operates in Overland Park under different owners and will remain open.
