Roaring River State Park, south of Cassville, was created nearly a century ago and is one of the most visited parks in Missouri, drawing between 1 million and 2 million visitors annually. It consists of more than 4,000 acres, offering lodging, camping, a park store and more services. It also includes a Missouri Department of Conservation trout hatchery. Many cabins and other features were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, including the older of two lodges.
Big Sugar Creek State Park, near Pineville, was established in 1992. It consists of more than 2,000 undeveloped acres with a trail. It is one of the least visited parks in the state, with visitation numbers last year around 12,000.
Town hall meetings are held annually for state parks. Park representatives provide information on future plans for the park and answer questions.
