A flight from Denver to Detroit was diverted to Kansas City on Saturday after flight crews discovered an issue with one of the aircraft’s engines, according to Delta Air Lines.

Delta Air Lines Flight DL2883 landed safely at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) at 1:53 p.m., according to FlightAware, a flight tracking platform. The flight was then escorted to a gate for passengers to deplane, according to Jackson Overstreet, an airport spokesman.

The flight was scheduled to depart from Denver International Airport (DEN) and arrive at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), according to Delta Air Lines.

While in the air, crews discovered a mechanical issue with the plane’s right engine, according to Berj Alexanian, a Delta Air Lines spokesperson.

“As the safety of our customers and our people is of the utmost importance, the flight crew of Delta flight DL2883 followed procedures to divert to Kansas City (MCI) after they observed an issue with one of the aircraft’s engines,” Delta Air Lines said in a statement.

“The flight landed safely in Kansas City, and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels.”

Alexanian said 175 customers were affected by the diversion, including six crew members — two pilots and four flight attendants.

“It was a mechanical issue and our maintenance teams will evaluate the aircraft to see what specifically the issue was,” Alexanian said in an email.

As of early Saturday afternoon, Alexanian said Delta Air Lines was working on securing a replacement plane to transport flight DL 2883 passengers to Detroit.
