Ewing Marion Kauffman School set to welcome first class of high schoolers

The Ewing Marion Kauffman School on Wednesday will welcome its first high school students.

This first class of ninth grade students originated with the opening in 2011 of the charter public school in fifth grade. The school is located at 6401 Paseo Blvd. in Kansas City.

According to the Kauffman school, these students came to them with math scores that were "well behind their peers in math and reading."

When the students start back to school Wednesday they will learn about the academic gains they have made over the last four years.

Kauffman school educators plan to reveal to students and faculty the results of standardized state tests those students took in the spring as 8th graders.

School Principal Julie Baker said she will talk to students about transitioning from middle to high school on day one. More information about the school is available online atkauffmanschool.org.
