Kansas City, Kansas police are investigating a fatal accident that happened on 38th Street at Interstate 635 this afternoon.

Police say around 1:40 p.m., an 80-year-old man stopped on the east side of 38th Street to help a person who was experiencing homelessness on the other side of the street.

As the man walked back to his parked vehicle, he was struck by another vehicle traveling north, according to KCK Police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that allegedly struck the 80-year-old man stayed at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation.
