Driver dies after pickup truck crashes into tree off Ward Parkway: Kansas City police

A driver died Wednesday morning after hitting a tree off Ward Parkway, police said.

At about 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, a truck crashed near West 66th Street and Ward Parkway, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver of a black Nissan Frontier was headed north on Ward Parkway when “for unknown reasons” he steered off the right side of the road and hit a tree, police said.

The driver, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead. No one else was in the vehicle at the time, and no one else was injured.

So far this year, 82 people have been killed in crashes, according to Kansas City police data. This time last year, 74 people had died.
