‘Anchorman’ actor, Big Slick host David Koechner arrested on suspicion of impaired driving

Actor David Koechner was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while impaired earlier this month in Ohio.

The Tipton, Missouri, native and “Anchorman” star was arrested at 1:47 a.m. on June 4 in Lawrence County, Ohio, according to a citation issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Koechner was pulled over while traveling east on U.S. Highway 52 and refused a blood-alcohol test, the citation said.

The arrest comes as Koechner is scheduled to co-host Big Slick Celebrity Weekend on June 24 and 25 in Kansas City, along with Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Eric Stonestreet and Rob Riggle.

About 30 celebrity guests, including Adam Scott, Sheryl Crow and Heidi Gardner, are set to join them for a Friday softball game at Kauffman Stadium and Saturday night auction and party at T-Mobile Center.

Body cam video

Body camera video from the arrest shows Koechner performing a series of field sobriety tests.

In the video, two troopers with the state highway patrol respond to the stop. One informs the other that Koechner has glassy eyes.

As both troopers walk over to his car, they say they can both smell alcohol.

“Oh god you can smell it from here,” a trooper says in body camera footage.

Koechner tells the trooper he’s had one beer to drink. He then performs a series of field sobriety tests, including following a deputy’s pen with his eyes, trying to walk a straight line while counting the steps out loud and counting out loud while holding a foot six inches off the ground.

After the final test, the deputy arrests Koechner.

Previous arrest

This is Koechner’s second alcohol-related arrest in the last several months. He was arrested on Dec. 31 in Simi Valley, California, on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said he was jailed and later released. Police said Koechner “ran a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, hit a median and then fled the scene,” according to the local television station KABC.

After that arrest, Koechner’s wife, Leigh Koechner, who is from Overland Park, asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to suspend his visitation rights with their five children, according to PEOPLE Magazine.
