A 20-year-old Platte City man was killed early Saturday when his car struck the back of a snow plow on Interstate 435 in Wyandotte County.

Ernesto Lopez was traveling southbound on I-435 just south of Leavenworth Road at 1:55 a.m. when his Chrysler Town and Country rear-ended a Kansas Department of Transportation plow truck “at highway speeds or greater,” according to a Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report.

The KDOT truck was treating the roadway with its warning lights activated, the patrol report said. Its driver, Randol Toom, 59, of Edwardsville, received minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
