This mother daughter duo create bold statement earrings, meet Amanda Rohr of FH&L Creations
FH&L Creations is a mother and daughter run business. They create leather statement earrings, beautiful bold pieces. Each pair is hand-crafted and put together by the duo. They’ve been up and running for three years now and are admittedly, “learning as we go.” They started out in Julie Forbis’s house (the mom in the duo) piecing together jewelry and they’re still there now, but now their creations are available in about ten different locations across the Kansas City area. Julie is the talent and creative one and Amanda (the daughter in the duo) enjoys the daily business aspects of running a business. Together they make a great team and are very excited about what the future holds for their small business.
We recently caught up with Amanda Rohr of FH&L Creations and are happy to share her story in this week’s “9 Questions With A Maker” feature, have a look below!
1. What inspires you and your work?
Fashion Trends and Research - We like to do lots of research on what is popular in fashion or even in our own city and then make our own twist on it.
2. Are makers doers or dreamers?
I think that successful ones are both. We have two owners in our business, one is the dreamer and one is the maker. It makes a good balance and helps us keep pushing forward and trying new things while grinding out the day to day requirements of a business.
3. What invention / product do you wish you would have created?
The Cricut - What a brilliant invention to make things so accessible for everyday people. The Cricut has been the catalyst for many makers small and large.
4. What is the worst invention / product still embraced by modern society?
Not sure - I think all inventions have a purpose when made - that purpose might not be for me all the time, but for someone it is helpful.
5. If you could sit down and have a drink with any person in your industry, who would it be and why?
Kendra Scott - she built her company single-handedly and now has a huge company that is NOT in debt. One of our business goals is to never be in debt. It is very important that the money we use is actual money we have, not money we borrowed. I admire bigger companies that have pulled this off and are thriving.
6. What do you love most about the Maker Movement happening in Kansas City right now?
I love that people are embracing unique small businesses and their products. They are searching for something unique and different.
7. Who or what is another maker in Kansas City that you’re impressed and inspired by?
There are so many: Trunk n Tail, Good Vibes Metal, Nice Co., 1KC and Love Letters.
8. What Kansas City creation / icon best reflects our makers’ community?
I don’t think there is just one creation or icon that can reflect all the makers we have here in Kansas City. There are so many of us makers and we are all different and unique.
9. If you could ask people to do just ONE thing to support the Maker Movement what would you ask or tell them?
Shop local and share their experiences with your friends. The best compliment we receive is the good words from customers to others.
