Does it take longer for hydrangeas to bud in the spring? I hope so because I’ve got nine, and none has begun budding yet. - Cindy
It’s really difficult to answer your question as not everything buds on a schedule. First and foremost it is dependent upon the weather and second depends on the type of hydrangeas and variety. Our weather has been really up and down this year and has effected the growth and beginning of growth for all things. Some things that begin to bud and bloom early have started later and those that normally wait a little have started earlier. Unfortunately with our Midwest weather, there are no guarantees. Our recommendation would be for patience and understanding. It will bud, but we can’t guarantee a time or forecast one. - Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners
