‘300 lbs of KC BBQ’: Kansas City restaurant is repping the Chiefs in Vegas this week
Philip Thompson, executive chef of the much-praised Kansas City barbecue joint Q39, has taken his talents to Las Vegas.
Just for this week.
On Friday, Thompson will be cooking in a Super Bowl-themed “tailgate” alongside Miguel Escobedo, chef of the popular San Francisco taco truck Al Pastor Papi.
The event is meant to showcase the flavors of the respective cities to attendees.
Thompson and his team left Kansas City bright and early Wednesday morning, bringing with them a mountain of meat.
“Big thanks to the @SouthwestAir check-in staff for helping us get 300lbs of KC BBQ into the plane,” he tweeted.
The event is being held at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, but is only open to MGM Rewards members.
“It is an honor to be included in this exciting event, and I know Kansas City will bring the heat to Las Vegas all week long,” Thompson said. Q39 has locations in midtown and in Overland Park.
The Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers starting at 5:30 p.m. Central Time on Sunday.
