A 1926 cartoon still packs a Punch

The resolution on this droll cartoon has been lost to time and deteriorated microfilm, but its point is as sharp today as when originally published in The Star on Dec. 16, 1926. It ran by permission of London’s Punch magazine, which was a bastion of satirical British humor. It was published with this caption:

Wife (furiously) — You don’t say you’ve asked those poisonous Brownes to dine with us tomorrow?

Husband — Well, there was an awkward pause in the conversation, and that was all I could think of to say.
