Veterans Day specials and events in the KC area
Tuesday is Veterans Day. Many Kansas City area businesses and organizations are marking the occasion with specials for veterans and active military personnel.
These offers are available on Tuesday (unless otherwise noted) to customers with military IDs or proof of military service:
54th Street, a restaurant founded in KC with nine locations in the area, is offering a free meal (up to $12 value) for dine in or carryout. In addition, for every veteran’s and active duty’s entree order and every “Like” on Facebook, 54th Street will donate dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Applebee’s is offering free “Thank You” meals, where patrons can choose from a special Veterans Day menu. Dine-in only.
Bar Louie is offering a free appetizer or entree (up to $12 value) Monday and Tuesday.
California Pizza Kitchen: Free entree from a special Veterans Day menu; dine-in only.
Cocobolo’s in Overland Park is offering a free entree, to be chosen from four options.
Denny’s: Free Build Your Own Grand Slam (four breakfast items) from 5 a.m. to noon.
Famous Dave’s: One Meat Salute (one meat, a corn muffin and a side), free from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Dinner includes a free buffet meal and beverage, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Goodcents offers a free 8-inch cold sub sandwich, dine-in meals only.
Great Clips: is offering veterans a free haircut. Veterans who visit a salon on Tuesday receive either a free haircut that day or a free-haircut card to redeem by Dec. 31. After Nov. 11, veterans must have a free haircut card to get the service. Also, Civilian customers who come in for service on Tuesday will get athe same free-haircut card to give to a veteran Limit one card per customer (while supplies last).
Green Lantern Car Wash is offering a free basic wash at all four locations.
Hy-Vee stores are offering a free breakfast buffet.
IHOP restaurants are offering free red, white and blue pancakes — buttermilk pancakes with blueberry and strawberry toppings and whipped cream — from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Independence Square restaurants Cafe Verona, Ophelia’s, Courthouse Exchange and Diamond Bowl will each offer one free entree from a special menu. Dine-in meals only.
Kansas City Zoo is offering military personnel and their immediate families living in the same household complimentary admission.
KC Hopps is offering one free entree.
National WWI Museum and all its Veterans Day events will be free to the public on Tuesday. A ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer A. Scott Berg will present the keynote address.
On The Border: Free “Create Your Own Combo menu,” featuring more than 150 possible dinner combinations.
Price Chopper will give a 25-cent per gallon discount at QuikTrip (up to 20 gallons) or 500 points toward food savings. The points or discount will be loaded onto Price Chopper Rewards cards by a store employee. No purchase necessary.
Spin Neapolitan Pizza is offering a free Mini Mia pizza with choice of toppings and soup or salad. The offer is good from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at all locations.
Texas Roadhouse is offering a free lunch with beverage from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; dine-in only.
Truman Library in Independence is offering free admission on Veterans Day.

Johnson County Veterans Day Observance includes a half-mile parade at 10 a.m.; program begins at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. Gardner. jocogov.org
Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. At least 170 entries are scheduled. Downtown Leavenworth. lvvetsparade.com
Shawnee Civic Centre, at Johnson Drive and Pflumm, will hold a celebration at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served compliments of the Sweet Life and a reception will follow at Johnny’s Tavern. 631-5200.
Veterans Day program from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Tallgrass Creek retirement community’s Blue Sky Restaurant, 13800 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park. Includes a performance by the Tallgrass Creek Chorale.
Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd Street and Quivira Road in Lenexa, will have a ceremony at 2 p.m., with an American Legion band performing at 1:30 p.m.
Fairview Cemetery, at Terrace Avenue and Shrader Street in Liberty, will have a ceremony at 11 a.m.
