On Thursday, July 29, 2010, Steele Schimming (left), 11, of Kansas City, practiced dragging her partner, Alison Kempf-Haxton, 11, of Topeka around by the ear as they learned stage fighting. The camp includes singing, visits from artistic staff, field trips and a final day performance of Beauty and the Beast at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6. 07292010 KEITH MYERS/The Kansas City Star KEITH MYERS/Kansas City Star

to present the publication and features information from local organizations about their summer activities for children.

While the published guide focuses on programs in our core area — Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte and Wyandotte counties — we are pleased to introduce a new companion digital tool this year that covers programs in 10 Kansas and 14 Missouri counties around the greater Kansas City area. Please visit

to use the tool, which will allow users to sort through nearly 700 programs by dates, location and type of activity on desktop or mobile.

Also, as part of our partnership, a limited number of the printed guide will be available for free at libraries in Kansas City, Mo., Wyandotte County, Johnson County, Olathe, Mid-Continent, North Kansas City and Cass County. Not included in the published guide are most day care and library programs.

We hope our products will help make your summer planning easier.

We welcome feedback about this guide and the interactive tool. Please email your thoughts to
