‘Marathon' Kicking Off Season 2 With Open-Play Week Beginning June 2
Bungie has provided details surrounding the June 2 launch of Season 2 for its first-person extraction shooter Marathon. A new developer insights video spotlights the addition of Night Marsh, a nighttime version of the Dire Marsh zone, the Sentinel, a new defense-oriented Runner shell, and a new hub called The Cradle for improving Runner stats.
Marathon will offer an Open-Play Week from June 2 to June 9 on all platforms for new players to experience the full game free. Other features in the Season 2 update include:
- New combatants and environmental challenges with a focus on Night Marsh that promise to move gameplay into more of a slow-paced survival-horror direction.
- New equipment that focuses on illuminating Night Marsh, including flashlights, Vector Rounds that create pools of light, and flares.
- New guns with the KKV-9SD, a fast-firing SMG that can be equipped with a folding stock mod to trade between hip fire and ADS, and the D54 battle pistol, which fires fully automatic three-round bursts.
- Tweaks to the implant system to reduce confusion about core effects.
- Streamlined faction progression to allow faster leveling by lowering requirements and increasing reputation gained by completing contracts and other in-run activities.
- Expansion of queues, including rotating availability of Night Marsh and Dire Marsh zones, Duos playlists on daily zones, and continued experimental queues featuring additional PvE content.
You can view a comprehensive list of improvements at Bungie's website. Marathon is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
