Fearless Baby Elephant Tries 'Charging' Safari Vehicle in South Africa-and It Couldn't Be Cuter
Normally, a charging elephant is a sign to run away as fast as possible, but a baby elephant charging a safari vehicle is much more adorable than threatening.
A group of tourists discovered this firsthand on May 24, when a demanding elephant calf faced off with them at Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa. The adorable elephant calf didn't hesitate to stand its ground in front of the vehicle, and everyone on board was obsessed. Now that the cute baby elephant video has been making rounds online, including being shared by news outlets like ABC7 Chicago, millions of viewers have fallen in love with the baby, too.
@abc7chicago An baby elephant tried its best to charge at safari visitors to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa. Video filmed by Kathryn Griffin shows the tiny elephant surging forward and flapping its ears at a group of tourists and rangers as an adult elephants stood nearby, largely ignoring the humans. The little one's bravado was short-lived, however, as it was startled and quickly turned away at the sound of the safari vehicle's engine starting up.

This angry little baby tried everything it could think of to scare away the safari tourists, but little did it know that everyone was just falling deeper in love. Did the calf even notice the people on board, or did it think the entire vehicle was some kind of big, scary animal? We may never know what was going through this baby's mind in this moment, but we can enjoy the enthusiastic reaction again and again, thanks to Kathryn Griffin, who caught the priceless interaction on video.
All of the @Abc7chicago commenters fell head over heels for the adorable elephant calf, but @silver.rose27 noticed "how the mom is just completely unconcerned." It speaks volumes about the safaris and tour guides at Sabi Sands Game Reserve that wild animals are so comfortable letting their babies get so close.
By the end of the interaction, the mama elephant even guided the baby away so it would stop bothering the people! As they say, Mother knows best, and she knew her baby wouldn't give in anytime soon. Even if the vehicle's engine gave the little one a fright, there's no question that attitude is here to stay.
"He's going to be a problem for sure," agreed @d0ulapeep. This mama elephant has a lot on her plate with this one, but she seems just as confident as her baby. That's exactly how it should be!
African Safari Experiences
A safari is a popular activity for tourists in Africa and has inspired many similar animal-viewing experiences around the globe. When visiting Africa, however, it is essential to choose a safari that prioritizes the well-being of both guests and animals.
Sabi Sands Game Reserve is special because it shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park. Animals are free to roam and do as they please! None of the animals are contained or owned by a person, which makes witnessing precious moments like this baby elephant's tantrum even more special.
