Taylor Sheridan Could Be Tom Selleck's Next Big Collaboration
Though Tom Selleck’s most recent role set him smack dab in the middle of New York City, bringing police commissioner Frank Reagan to life on Blue Bloods, for quite some time, the actor found a certain comfort in a setting far different than that of the beloved series. Two of his most iconic roles in The Shadow Riders (1982) and Quigley Down Under (1990) allowed him to pull on his cowboy boots, dust off his hat and saddle up for a series of western adventures—and Selleck would be down for another gig within the genre.
As Selleck was saying goodbye to his Blue Bloods character, the actor opened up about the possibilities his future could hold—and the work of Taylor Sheridan just so happened to be one of the things on his radar. Here, see what Tom Selleck had to say about getting back in the saddle.
Fans want a Tom Selleck x Taylor Sheridan collab
In a 2024 conversation with Parade, Selleck reflected on his long, successful career, as well as discussed what the possibilities were for his future. “I wouldn’t say [offers] are pouring in, but maybe some people are thinking of me,” the actor shared at the time. Though Selleck didn’t quite specify who those people were, he did go on to reveal that he was a fan of the work of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan’s original series spawned spinoffs like 1923 and 1883, and it seems as though they were enough to inspire the Three Men and a Baby (1987) star.
“A good Western’s always on my list,” Selleck shared. “I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.”
Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott: a 60-year Western bromance
Selleck went on to shout out his pal Sam Elliott, who appeared in Sheridan’s 1883—and the actor made it clear that should the Yellowstone creator ever feel like pairing the two together in a project, he’d be down. “Sam was great in [1883]. Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam.”
What’s next for Tom Selleck? His future after the Reagan family
Though a Tom Selleck and Taylor Sheridan collab has yet to materialize, it seems like a possibility. Selleck hasn’t acted since retiring from Blue Bloods, but back in December, he signed with UTA, signaling a desire to get back on the screen. In terms of Taylor Sheridan, the TV mastermind is almost always concocting new ideas for series and films, so it’s only a matter of time before he comes up with the perfect fit for Selleck—and we’ll be waiting for when that time comes!
