Star wins 6 features awards in national journalism contest
The Star has won six awards, including one for best section, in the annual excellence in features journalism contest hosted by the Society for Features Journalism. The paper competed in Division 2, circulation 90,000 to 199,999.
In Best Section, the Star was chosen for strong content. “Food photography and reporting sparkle,” according to judge’s comments. Three other newspapers from the division also were chosen: the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, San Antonio Express-News and The Virginian Pilot.
The other awards went to Jeneé Osterheldt, second place, and Cindy Hoedel, honorable mention, for general commentary; Sara Smith, second place, arts and entertainment commentary; Robert Trussell, third place, arts and entertainment feature; and Ink magazine, honorable mention, best niche product.
