Leawood mom's DIY Network 'Bargain Mansions' shows airing Saturday on HGTV

Back-to-back episodes of “Bargain Mansions,” the home renovation show starring Leawood mom Tamara Day, will air on HGTV at 10 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14.

Is it a sign of better things to come? Like a second season, for instance, or a jump to HGTV? Day and her producers aren’t saying.

“Bargain Mansions,” produced for DIY Network, features Day restoring six mansions in the Kansas City area over the course of 12 episodes.

Her father, Ward Schraeder, who lives in Salina and is CEO and a principal partner at Medical Development Management in Wichita, and general contractor Troy Paul, owner of Leawood’s Next Generation Construction, co-star.

In the episodes to air Saturday, April 14, Day renovates a ranch. During the first episode, she transforms a master bedroom into an open kitchen. In the second episode, Day creates a new master suite, enlarging a tiny bathroom by tearing out a wall and moving a door.

She and Schraeder also polish a copper fireplace hood using a familiar solution that has unusual results. Her plans to build a sunroom and patio run into problems due to weather. See photo gallery below.

Reality Road Entertainment, a video production and casting company in the Crossroads Arts District, produced the show with its Los Angeles partner, Conveyor Media.
