What should be done with Kemper Arena? Think big and crazy

Ever since sleek and sexy Sprint Center came along, everyone’s been ignoring Kemper Arena.

The “grand old lady,” as Kansas City Councilman Ed Ford referred to Kemper, clearly needs a makeover. But what should she become?

The city is looking for ideas for this West Bottoms fixture, and so are we. If it were up to you, what would Kemper Arena be used for?

Officials have talked about turning it into a youth sports complex or replacing it with a smaller multipurpose center. But unlike the city, we don’t have to be practical. Get creative!

Email your cleverest idea to starfyi@gmail.com (put “Kemper Arena makeover” in the subject line). Over-the-top suggestions welcome! We’d love to see your sketches and pictures, too.

Do try to keep your proposal under 100 words, and please include your name, city and phone number. Deadline: 11:59 p.m. May 11.

We’ll publish our favorite Kemper makeover ideas in FYI and on KansasCity.com later in May.
