Latest ‘Bargain Mansions’ transformation is an English tudor near Ward Parkway
In the first of the two episodes of DIY Network’s “Bargain Mansions” that aired Dec. 13, Tamara Day, a Leawood mother of four, tackles a 1926 English Tudor near Kansas City’s famously elegant Ward Parkway.
Day opens up a tiny kitchen to an oversized dining room and replaces an outdated mantel with a stunning fireplace surround. She also crafts a large desktop out of a piece of reclaimed walnut for a home office, restores an original mail slot and fixes some issues with the home’s old knob-and-tube electrical system.
“Bargain Mansions” comprises 12 episodes during which Day renovates six homes in the Kansas City area. The network will also re-air the two pilot episodes, which involve a seventh area home. Day has since sold six of the seven the homes.
New episodes air at 9 p.m. Wednesdays.
In the second of the evening’s shows, Day can’t figure out how to make a sizable master suite until she comes upon the idea to add a second deck to the English Tudor. She also restores original doors in the home that requires stripping several coats of paint and creates an outdoor living room with a fire pit in the backyard.
