So versatile, so wearable: Get plenty of mileage from ankle boots

Ankle boots come in a surprising variety of styles, such as Coconuts by Matisse.
Ankle boots come in a surprising variety of styles, such as Coconuts by Matisse. Special to The Star

The past couple of weeks, many of us have been walking around with sweaty ankles, wearing our beloved boots before it’s really chilly enough to do so. The good news? Winter is coming, and boot season is here to stay awhile.

The most versatile of all boot options? Definitely the always-trending ankle boot. While they may not make the wow-impact of an over-the-knee pair, the wearability and style options are endless.

Make like Stevie Nicks with a fringetastic pair of booties from the Bunker at Broadway and Westport Road (Coconuts by Matisse, $70). They would look great with a boho dress and bare legs on these occasional warmer days, and layered with tights once we need to stave off frostbite.

Shearling-trimmed accessories are everywhere this fall, and these T.J. Maxx booties ($34.99) are the perfect way to wear the trend for less. Pair these with jeans and a great bomber jacket, and enjoy looking like J. Lo from the early aughts.

Also a major trend? Metal details on everything. These Simply Vera Wang boots from Kohl’s ($69.99) feature two-tone imitation leather and a shiny gold-toned bar above the low heel. Wear these with a slim, ankle-length jean. Make sure that your sock isn’t showing and that at least a sliver of skin is.

For a major splurge, invest in these classic black leather Rag & Bone Chelsea boots (at Standard Style on the Plaza, $475). They’re definitely pricey, but they’ll match everything in your closet forever and will last that long, too.

And finally, for something completely different, hit up Sex + Ice Cream at 1515 Walnut St. and pick up these glitter star booties (YRU, $100). You’ll look like Lady Gaga and Dolly Parton at the same time. They won’t truly match much, which means you can wear them with nearly anything.
