Kansas City police investigated a wreck about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue. One man was killed in the crash.

A 26-year-old man driving a car while injured by gunfire ran a red light at 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue Tuesday night, causing a wreck that left another driver dead, according to police.

The wreck was reported about 8:30 p.m., when a red Pontiac traveling at high speed south on Prospect Avenue hit a pickup truck in the intersection at 63rd Street.

The 24-year-old driver of the pickup truck was declared dead at a hospital, said Sgt. Deb Randol of the Kansas City Police Department. The driver of the pickup truck had been at a rugby game with his brother, who was following behind him in traffic and witnessed the crash, Randol said.

The driver of a third vehicle that was struck during the wreck did not have life-threatening injuries and did not go to a hospital.

The driver of the Pontiac had been injured by gunfire in a separate incident near 54th Street and Park Avenue. That incident was under investigation by Kansas City police detectives. The man was at a hospital with critical injuries, Randol said, but he was expected to survive.

The investigations into the wreck and the shooting continued.
