KU goal posts damaged in revelry after Royals win
Overzealous Royals fans took celebrating to a criminal level in Lawrence on Sunday night and caused an estimated $10,000 worth of damage on the University of Kansas football field.
University public safety said that several hundred people caught in the revelry of World Series victory broke the lock on the south gate to KU’s Memorial Stadium, broke down part of the fence, took down a football goal post and tossed it into Potter Lake behind the stadium.
Capt. James Anguiano of KU Public Safety said police are investigating the incident using videos and social media posts to track down individuals involved.
Anguiano said those involved could be charged with criminal damage to property, burglary and theft.
“We are lucky that no one got hurt,” Anguiano said.
