Fall by the Fire

It’s finally time to cozy up to the fire pit, pull out the blankets, serve some hearty fall fare and top it all off with gourmet s’mores

This weekend why not plan a spur-of-the-moment day trip and head for your favorite pumpkin patch? After filling up the trunk with a multitude of pumpkins, and maybe some mums and other fall favorites, invite a few friends over for a casual dinner by the fire pit. October in Kansas City is the best time for outdoor entertaining around the fire. It’s chilly enough that the fire warms the soul, but not so cold as to drive everyone indoors. (Barring the occasional snowfall, that is.)

Nothing could be easier than using your pumpkin-patch haul for impromptu decor, along with glowing lanterns, fresh flowers, food and seasonally inspired drinks. Fall decor can be so much more than orange, red and brown. Our slate, maroon and cream color theme was inspired by a single napkin from Pryde’s Kitchen and Necessities in Westport. A no-fuss meal of grilled sausages and warming soup goes together in minutes. Dessert is make-your-own s’mores, but with gourmet chocolate and marshmallows. As the sun sets, make sure to provide warm wraps for everyone as they gather closer to the fire.
