Here’s what’s happening in Kansas City Sept. 30-Oct. 2

Friday

Tchaikovsky’s Fourth

The Kansas City Symphony’s Classical Series kicks off Friday with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony. The performance, which begins at 8 p.m. at Helzberg Hall, features American composer Patrick Harlin’s Rapture and a concerto from violinist Stefan Jackiw. Tickets start at $30, and can be purchased here.

Saturday

Barktoberfest Kansas City

Kansas City’s only pet and music festival begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at Shawnee Mission Park. Admission to the event is free and includes live music, baked goods and merchandise from local vendors, as well as the opportunity to adopt dogs looking for their forever homes. Rieger Whiskey Brunch

The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange is giving brunch a try starting at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The three-course meal features a number of tasty options, such as avocado toast, smoked salmon, biscuits and blood-sausage gravy, baked French toast and a cinnamon roll. The meal is $29 per person and cocktails will also be available. See the full menu here.

Applefest

Take a stroll through downtown Weston Saturday for the city’s annual Applefest. A parade of antique tractors, classic cars, fire trucks and bands will begin on Main Street at 10 a.m., followed by a wide range of activities for kids and adults. More than 60 arts and crafts booths will also be on site. Click here for a full schedule of Applefest, which continues Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WaterFire KC

The Plaza Art Fair might be over, but the season’s celebrations on the Country Club Plaza are just beginning. Kansas City’s WaterFire event kicks off at 7 p.m. along Brush Creek, where visitors can witness live performances by fire artists and musicians until 10 p.m. The annual art installation is free to the public. Runway to Impact

Beginning at 6 p.m. in the West Bottoms, enjoy a night of music and fashion hosted by MADI Donations. Runway to Impact will feature a runway show from MADI Apparel, as well as bites from Port Fonda and cocktails by J. Rieger & Co. Tickets are $35 or $75 for VIP access and include a complimentary drink and appetizers. The urban street party will benefit a dozen different K.C. nonprofits with underwear donations. Harvest Celebration & Antique Tractor Show

Apple cider, kettle corn and hayrides: Fall has finally arrived at Powell Gardens. The final day of the annual Harvest Celebration in Kingsville takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with plenty of activities for kids, including pumpkin painting and pedal tractor pulls.
