National Oyster Day at Jax Fish House
Run, don’t walk: The first 100 guests that make it in the doors of Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar will receive a half dozen oysters for free in honor of National Oyster Day. Beginning at 3 p.m., the free oysters will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis and will include the restaurant’s regular happy hour until 6 p.m. For more information about Jax Fish House or the event, click here.
Start First Fridays off in the Crossroads for an evening of art exhibits and local food and drinks beginning at 5 p.m. Antique stores throughout the West Bottoms will also be open beginning Friday for First Festival Weekend, which includes food and drinks from local food trucks through Sunday.
Shawnee Summer Concert Series
Listen to the sounds of Landrush for free at West Flanders Park for Shawnee’s Summer Concert Series. Bring your own cooler for the show, which starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until 9:30. Hy-Vee will also be offering food and drinks for purchase. For more information, click here.
Slide the City
Be part of a one-of-a-kind experience when Slide the City brings its 1,000-foot slide to Kansas City. The full-day block party begins at noon and lasts until 7 p.m. The event includes music, food, drinks and the family-friendly slip and slide between Pershing Road and 25th Street. DIY Class at Bella Patina
Create your own yard dice set in preparation for tailgating season at this DIY class at Bella Patina. At 3 p.m., The Makery KC will guide customers through the making of their own “Yardzhee” game. Sunday morning yoga, followed by bottomless brunch? Count us in. Head to Pinstripes at 10 a.m. Sunday for an hour of yoga from CorePower Yoga, then stay for the mimosas and brunch that follow.
