From free or inflatable workouts to local exhibits and shows, here are the events we’re looking forward to this weekend.
Friday
Luxury: Treasures of the Roman Empire
Gold jewelry, bronze statuettes and finely wrought silver drinking vessels: The latest exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art puts some of the finest works from Roman craftsmen and artists on display. Tickets begin at $6 and are valid during museum hours. They can be purchased here.
Saturday
Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s Academy Award-winning film is brought to life on stage at Starlight Theatre. The lavish sets and musical numbers will entertain adults and kids alike. Relive the tale of Belle and her Beast starting at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
Insane Inflatable 5K
Get ready to run through an extensive obstacle course of inflatables at Kansas Speedway beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The course includes an inflatable slingshot, waverunner, mattress run and wrecking balls, but don’t worry about how long it takes you to finish the 3.1 miles — this event is untimed. Kenny Chesney with Miranda Lambert
Head over to Arrowhead Stadium for a night of tailgating and live music from two of the biggest country stars in the industry. Gates open at 5 p.m. for Chesney’s Spread the Love tour. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased here.
Sunday
Yoga in the Park
Bring your yoga mat or a blanket to City Market Park for an hour of free yoga starting at 10 a.m., courtesy of KC Yoga Center. Yogis of all ages are encouraged to join the mid-morning workout, which will be available every Sunday through Oct. 2. For more information, click here.
Kansas City’s Big Picnic
Sprawl out on the lawn of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for Kansas City’s annual Big Picnic. From 4 to 7 p.m., you can enjoy lawn games, live entertainment, sculpture challenges and art activities free of charge. Bring your own food and drinks or order from a wide range of K.C. food trucks.
