Woman pulled from basement of burning Overland Park house dies from her injuries
An injured woman pulled from a burning Overland Park house Sunday night has died, the Overland Park Fire Department said in a news release Monday.
The victim was identified as Leanora C. Marks, 67, of Overland Park.
Firefighters conducting a search of the house had found Marks injured in the basement. She was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.
The fire was reported about 9 p.m. Sunday in a split-level, single-family home in the 7500 block of Kessler Lane. Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming through the roof.
As firefighters attacked the blaze in the upper level, others searched the home for anyone inside. It was during the search that they found Marks and pulled her from the basement. She was unresponsive at the scene.
No one else was home at the time, and there were no other injuries reported.
The fire was brought under control. It appeared to have started in the basement of the home, where Marks was found, according to the fire department. The majority of the fire damage, however, was to the upper level.
Overland Park police and fired departments continue to investigate the fatal fire. Anyone with information is asked to call 913-344-8721.
