Independence employee faces charges for receiving oral sex, nude photos from students
An Independence Schools employee faces criminal charges for engaging in oral sex with two students he communicated with on Facebook and Snapchat.
Jackson County prosecutors have charged Robert L. Bluett, 22, with two counts of sexual contact with a student.
According to court documents, a police investigation began in early March after an assistant principal at William Chrisman High School was informed by a student that her friend had received inappropriate texts from Bluett.
One of the texts reportedly said," What do you do when you are having sex with guys?"
Bluett, who works as a paraeducator and coach at William Chrisman, initially denied to police that he had sexual conversations with the girl. After learning that his Facebook had been subpoenaed, he told investigators that he did exchange sexual messages with the girl, but denied that he had received nude photographs.
He was arrested after the girl's mother told police her daughter had confirmed sending nude photographs to Bluett while communicating on Facebook and Snapchat.
After his arrest, Bluett told police he had sexual relationships with two other students that he met at William Chrisman High School.
The second student said that she had met Bluett when he served as a substitute teacher last year. They chatted on Snapchat.
This past fall, she became intoxicated at a friend's house and asked Bluett to give her a ride. He picked her up and drove to his driveway, where the student told police she performed consensual oral sex.
He later drove her home.
The third student told police that she messaged Bluett on Snapchat with questions about being a teacher and working with special needs kids.
She said she sent nude photographs to Bluett at least five times, and he sent her a picture of his penis.
She told police she gave Bluett oral sex in a closed bathroom at William Chrisman High School on March 23, 2018. She told police that the encounter was consensual.
Bluett, she told police, was aware that she was 17 because they had talked about it.
The Independence School District issued a statement on Thursday.
“When an allegation was reported to a staff member, the district followed protocol and immediately reported this to the Missouri Children’s Division," the statement read. "The district takes student safety very seriously and the accused individual is no longer working for the Independence School District.”
