Feeling the winter blues? Have the urge to get out of the house and stretch those legs?

There are several adult recreational leagues in Kansas City for you to join and stay during the colder months. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people if you’ve been stuck at your home for a while.

WHAT CAN I JOIN?

KC Crew has a few winter leagues available. Early registration ends Saturday, Jan. 7, but you have until the final team deadline on Jan. 14 to sign up. You can become a free agent at any time.

Becoming a free agent means any team can pick you up if they need someone to fill a spot, but you can also not be picked up at all throughout the season for the league you’re interested in.

These are the leagues you can play in this winter:

  • Basketball

  • Cornhole, or bean bag toss

  • Esports, like Mario Kart and Rocket League

  • Floor shuffleboard

  • Futsal

  • Indoor golf

  • Indoor volleyball

  • Karaoke

Each league has variations based on a variety of factors, such as co-ed or one gender, roster size and skill level.

More leagues will be available in the spring, summer and fall, such as soccer, sand volleyball and kickball.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

Create an account first by going here and signing up with your email address. After that, visit this link and check out what leagues are available.

Once you reach the screen that shows you each league, click “sign up” in whichever league you want to participate in.

If you’re creating a team and know people who want to join your team, KC Crew will send you a link share with your friends. This lets them join your team and adds them to the roster.

Keep in mind that KC Crew charges per roster member, so you won’t be able to play in a game until you pay for your fee. The team captain, or the person responsible for creating the team, also pays a captain’s fee, which is refunded if the team reaches the minimum roster member limit by the final team deadline.

The fee varies depending on the sport you play and how many people are required to be registered for the team to count. You can still play games if your team is short one roster spot of the minimum amount, but your deposit will not be refunded.

Do you know of any other rec leagues around Kansas City? Let us know at kcq@kcstar.com and we’ll let our community know how to sign up.
