Cliff Drive in Kessler Park gets its supply of “Winter Magic” on Thursday. The annual holiday light show from KC Parks has moved from Swope Park to Kansas City’s Historic Northeast neighborhood this year, and it opens this week.

The drive-thru display is over a mile long and features more Christmas lights than one can count. There are 12 themed areas throughout the drive, all with different light shows and sounds.

Some features of the light show include:

  • The longest animated tunnel in the Midwest, measuring 300 feet

  • A “12 Days of Christmas” display

  • A toy workshop display

  • Lighted zoo animals

  • Candy blacklights

  • Lightered spheres

  • A “Pixel Town” display

Visitors will be able to tune into a specific FM radio station to hear songs that correspond to the lights.

“Winter Magic” starts on Thursday, Nov. 3 and is open until Jan. 1, 2023. It opens at 6 p.m. each evening. Closing times will vary, but the park anticipates closing at 9 p.m. every Sunday through Thursday and at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

HOW TO GET TICKETS

You can purchase tickets on Winter Magic’s website. Click on “book now” or “buy tickets.” Select the date you want to visit, and check out.

Tickets cost:

  • $25 for a standard car or truck

  • $40 for a limo or commercial van

  • $55 for a commercial bus that hosts over 15 passengers

KC Parks asks that you arrive during the time you bought your ticket. There’s a $5 fee if you buy your ticket at the gate, which you’ll need to pay for with a credit card. Cash won’t be accepted in person.

You can add a cotton-pickle challenge kit, which gives you pickle-flavored cotton candy, for $6 and a kids accessory pack for $7.
