Friday is the last art walk of the year in KCK. Here’s what to see and do

Every third Friday of the month, local artists gather in Kansas City, Kansas. to display their work in Strawberry Hill as residents wander around, taking in the sights and sounds.

The Art Walk is happening Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. on 6th Street in downtown KCK. It’s a free monthly event that aims to bring the community together through art exhibits, live performances, food and other experiences that they’ll share.

October is the last time the Art Walk will take place in 2022. If you haven’t seen what Kansas City’s local artists have to offer, now’s your time to venture out to KCK.

WHAT CAN I SEE?

Twelve venues will be open to the public in October for the Art Walk, each with something different and exciting on display. Check out the list of places below:

  • Kinship Cafe: 719 N. 6th St. The KC Fun Ride Cruise starts here, and you’ll get to paint pumpkins with live music playing in the background. The Royal Chief performs here at 6:30 p.m.

  • Veritas Arch + Design: 707 N. 6th St. You’ll find a “curiouser and curiouser” exhibit, dedicated to Alice in Wonderland at this venue. Brook Knoll also performs outside the building at 6 p.m.

  • Community Lending: 613 N. 6th St.

  • Epic Hall: 611 N. 6th St. Another “curiouser and curiouser” exhibit will be set up at Epic Hall.

  • Epic Arts: 609 N. 6th St. Maddie Lai’s performance starts here at 6:30 p.m.

  • Local Agent: 510 N. 6th St. The KCKCC Jazz band will be performing here from 5 to 9 p.m.

  • Manor Records: 401 N. 6th St. Live music from Olivia Mancina, Cuee and Alber Sounds start at 5 p.m., and an art exhibit can be found at the local record company building.

  • Flagship Books: 600 Ohio Ave. The bookstore is hosting a printmaking demonstration

  • Splitlog Coffee: 548 Central Ave. The coffee shop will have live music from Jordan & Co. at 5 p.m., an art exhibit, baked goods, coffee and tea on hand for visitors.

  • Fat Matt’s Vortex: 411 N. 6th St. A new mural by DINKC will be on display here.

  • The Shop: 407 N. 6th St. UnplugKC’s “Sound Bath” starts at 7 p.m., and provides the sounds as you walk through this art gallery.

  • Chicago’s: 534 Central Ave. Meet up here for an after party featuring craft cocktails.

There will be a street gallery on Barnett Avenue. Over 100 local vendors, from food to arts and crafts, will set up shop, along with vendors from CABA’s La Placita. The Chanice Dance Academy performs here at 5:30 p.m.
