Keep the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations going at these two free KC festivals
If Fiesta Hispana last weekend wasn’t enough, two celebrations are happening on Saturday to keep the Hispanic Heritage Month festivities alive in Kansas City: the Latino Arts Festival and Festival de la Herencia Hispana.
You won’t have to pick between the two, as the Latino Arts Festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and Festival de la Herencia Hispana runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Both are free for all to enjoy.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR AT THE LATINO ARTS FESTIVAL
The festival takes place at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art’s south lawn, which is a part of Johnson County Community College.
You’ll see the following at this festival:
Over 30 vendors including Carmona’s Chamoy KC, Ruby’s Banquets and Capax by Mitzy
KC Lowriders and lowrider hop performance
Local artists including Laura Flores and sisters Daisy and Lesley Escamilla
Live performances from local bands, dancers, and DJ Munch
WHAT’S HAPPENING AT FESTIVAL DE LA HERENCIA HISPANA
The festival has been running for over 20 years and it takes place at 719 S. Pyle St. in Kansas City, Kansas. John Fiske Elementary and the Armourdale Renewal Association are working together to bring this festival to the community.
Local foods, free games for kids, music, entertainment and more are scheduled for the festival.
“I love that the festival is able to bring so many people from our school and our community together for something positive,” Monica Mendez, the executive director with the Armourdale Renewal Association, said. “I also love that we are able to highlight the culture of so many of our families in a positive light so they can be proud of where they came from.”
