Your votes are in: Christopher Elbow crowned Kansas City’s favorite hot chocolate
Your votes are in: This winter’s winner for the best hot chocolate in Kansas City is Christopher Elbow Chocolates.
This upscale chocolatier is best known for its truffles, caramels and other chocolate confections available around the city. But readers overwhelmingly supported its ‘drinking chocolate’ as well: a rich, decadent treat with eight varieties inspired by the shop’s best-selling chocolates.
“We always are honored to be recognized by anyone in the city,” owner Christopher Elbow told The Star. “We’re very much a Kansas City born and bred company, so being recognized is always still such a thrill, even after 20 years.”
Among the shop’s hot chocolate offerings are a classic dark chocolate, a single-origin drinking chocolate from Ecuador, the Spiced Cocoa Noir infused with chilies, cinnamon and spices and specialty flavors like peppermint, hazelnut and raspberry. Customers can top any flavor with fresh whipped cream or marshmallows.
You can find this tasty cocoa at the shop’s main location, 1819 McGee St. in the Crossroads. Messenger Coffee on Grand Boulevard also uses the shop’s chocolate in their mochas.
Christopher Elbow beat last year’s hot chocolate champion, Café Corazón, for this year’s title. It also defeated challengers Café Ollama, Main Street Coffee House and André’s Confiserie Suisse.
The other hot chocolate spots nominated by readers this winter were Summer Moon Coffee, Caribou Coffee, The Roasterie, Second Best Coffee, Ground House Coffee, Cheval on Main and Betty Rae’s Ice Cream.
