State of the art windows and exterior walls are just two of the features that contribute to a Brookfield Residential home’s energy efficiency.

Studies show that homes with a certification from the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) have a 30 percent higher resale value than their noncertified counterparts. Brookfield Residential, a new homebuilder in the Kansas City area, is a certified RESNET EnergySmart Builder. Each of their homes is tested on a home energy index, and meets strict energy efficiency standards.

“When we decided to start building homes in Kansas City, we knew we wanted to build the best, most energy-efficient homes in the area,” said Scott Davis, Brookfield Residential’s operations manager in Kansas City. “Receiving this designation reinforces our commitment to provide our buyers with a safe and efficient new home.”

An EnergySmart Builder is required to meet the most current International Energy Conservation Code, even if the local building code does not require it. Brookfield Residential is one of only 11 RESNET certified builders in Missouri, and one of seven in Kansas.

A home’s energy efficiency is measured with the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index, a nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance. EnergySmart Builders work closely with HERS raters to ensure the home is built up to standard. The HERS index ranges from 0 to 150, with the higher number representing higher energy usage. Most existing homes in Kansas City fall into the 100-125 range. In Kansas City, new homes are required to have a HERS index rating of 85. Brookfield Residential homes have index ratings between 59 and 65.

“Energy efficiency is becoming an essential component of new home construction,” said Todd Langenhorst, a Certified Energy Rater with HD Engineering & Design, Inc. “Brookfield Residential is smart to be ahead of the curve and building homes that are exceeding the current industry standard for the Kansas City area.”

For the consumer, a lower HERS rating means lower energy costs. Langenhorst estimates that a one-point drop on the index translates to a 1 percent drop in overall utility cost annually for the homebuyer.

“We are excited to bring luxurious homes to Kansas City,” said Davis. “Becoming an EnergySmart Builder means our homes boast not only stylish design with practical functionality but also significant cost savings for the buyer.”

Brookfield Residential’s efficient homes are offered in a portfolio of floor plans. The options include six two-story homes ranging from 2,600 to 3,600 square feet, and two large, true ranch-style homes that range from 2,300 to 3,100 square feet. With 12 distinctive, move-in-ready homes open to tour daily, ranging from the mid-$300,000s to the mid-$400,000s, there is something for every type of homebuyer.

The two-stories and ranches are filled with light, style and purpose. All plans uniquely offer a study/office and formal dining room, in addition to at least four bedrooms in the two-stories, with an option of five to seven bedrooms; and three bedrooms in the ranch, with an option of five bedrooms. Attention to detail shines in these well-designed homes featuring a standard three-car garage, functional floor plan with no wasted space, and exceptional energy efficiency, all outfitted with beautiful finishes such as stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors throughout, granite countertops and custom cabinetry.
