When it comes to winning awards, the residential community of Cottonwood Canyon is no stranger. During this year’s Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA) Spring Parade of Homes, which runs through Sunday, two homes in Cottonwood Canyon have garnered American Dream First Place Awards.

The Addison II by Starr Homes, at 9180 Cottonwood Canyon Drive on Lot 18 (Tour No. 50), is a spectacular reverse 11/2-story, four-bedroom, four full-bathroom, two half-bathroom, three-car garage home encompassing a wealth of green design elements, products, materials and perhaps most importantly, practices, that truly create an ecologically efficient home of lasting beauty.

The home serves as the new Cottonwood Canyon sales office and is an appropriate representation of how Starr Homes incorporates its passion for beauty and design with innovative and effective products to reduce waste, provide energy savings and add to the long-term affordability of the home.

The second American Dream First Place Award winner here is by Befort Construction (Tour No. 49). This home overlooks the No. 15 green of the adjoining Canyon Farms Golf Club, formerly known as the Golf Club of Kansas and once ranked among Golfweek magazine’s “Best New Courses.” The home is a gorgeous reverse 11/2-story, four-bedroom, four full-bathroom home with a spacious master suite on the first floor.

Inside prospective buyers will find clean lines and a modern feel with an eye for luxury highlighted by all granite counter tops, wood throughout the main living areas, expansive glass walls, commercial grade appliance packages, custom cabinetry, luxury wet bar packages and much more.

“Starr Homes and Befort Construction possess years of experience in the building industry and are highly sought-after for their beautiful, functional and energy-efficient homes built using only the finest designs, technology, craftsman and suppliers,” said developer Steve Hughes. “We are very proud of the fact that the HBA honored them with these two American Dream First Place Awards and to be able to feature their homes at Cottonwood Canyon.”

Other industry honors at Cottonwood Canyon include two Gold Awards for “Best New Community,” a Silver Award for Starr Homes from Kansas City Homes & Gardens magazine for ”Best Empty Nest” in 2011 and B.L. Rieke Custom Homes for “Best Model Home $750,000 to $1 million,” also in 2011.

“Prospective buyers who come here will instantly see, understand and come to appreciate how eco-conscious designs, technology and sustainability allow them to enjoy an environmentally healthy lifestyle, not just a house,” said local real estate agent Angie Ripley, who markets Cottonwood Canyon with Nita Criswell. “In addition to the neighboring golf course, the community is adjacent to the Johnson County Trail System and near the 1,660-acre Shawnee Mission Park, which together offer residents here an ambiance of natural beauty and tranquility.”

The team at Cottonwood Canyon is also proud of the fact that Ripley was named the 2013 Kansas City Realtor Salesperson of the Year. The award, presented annually by the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors, recognizes individuals for their professional accomplishments, including sales volume; commitment to ethical real estate practices; community service; and involvement in local, state and national Realtor associations.

According to Hughes, “It is rewarding to have an award-winning community around an award-winning golf course with so many award-winning homes and an award-winning marketing team.”
