An Overture of Homes: Homes of Note 2016
Fans of the annual Homes of Note now have twice as much time to enjoy the holiday tour and boutiques.
“An Overture of Homes,” sponsored by the Kansas City Symphony Guild, is open this year for two days: Fri., Nov. 11 and Sat., Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The tour features three seasonally decorated homes: The Preserve at Shoal Creek Valley, located off Highway 152 and NE Shoal Creek Parkway, in The Preserve neighborhood. All three homes plus the Gate House, which will host the holiday boutiques, are conveniently located on North Sycamore Avenue.
The Homes of Note
Nicole and Paul Anderson have lived in their Mediterranean-style home for a little over two years. “We had admired the home from the outside for years and when it came up for sale, we bought it,” they said. Once they toured the home, they also loved the floor plan and backyard.
For the tour, the Andersons worked with Patty Mahoney and Kerstin Bohn from Haus by Design to update the interior to a more transitional tone. John Shackelford of Shackelford Botanical Designs provided the floral displays in the home.
Jen and Ben Dohrmann have lived in their home, built by Cardinal Crest Homes, for three years. “We loved building this home,” they said. “Our contractor was with us on every decision and helped immensely.”
Their home represents a mesh of Jen’s modern aesthetic and Ben’s farm heritage. Family is important to the Dohrmanns. The bench on the front porch was made by Jen’s grandfather, and Ben’s grandparents were the original owners of the bed in their toddler’s bedroom.
“We love the Shoal Creek area, and the neighborhood has a great location and amenities,” they said.
The visionary staff at Erdos at Home, located in Zona Rosa, helped the Dohrmanns with interior design to prepare for the tour. Rhonda Ruble and her team at Cosentino’s Price Chopper provided floral designs.
Marty and David Dickson have lived in their home for five years, which they affectionately call “Fox Hill” due to a fox den on the property. The couple wanted to stay north, and happenstance brought them to Shoal Creek Valley. The couple said it was “love at first sight” for the J.D. Nelson-built home.
They describe their one-story home as versatile, eclectic, and Country French, and where they enjoy displaying treasured family heirlooms and collectibles representing the couple’s hobbies and interests.
D’Agee & Co., located in downtown Liberty, designed floral arrangements for this home. Alex Iglesias, Michael Coyazo, and Juan Carlos from Samsara, a home furnishing store featuring vintage, classic, and antique furnishings located in Parkville, provided interior design expertise for the tour.
