Jesse Metcalfe and Kathryn Davis Bring the Heat in 'Summer Sparks' 1st Look

Jesse Metcalfe is returning to his rom-com roots in the new Summer Sparks movie alongside Kathryn Davis.

In Us Weekly's exclusive first look at the Roku film's trailer, Metcalfe and Davis' characters, Adam and Monica, are single parents who sign up for a summer cooking camp featuring an epic prize.

"There's this whole competition and the winning family gets their recipe published in a real cookbook," Monica tells her daughter, who asks if she is "joking right now."

Monica's daughter is not thrilled at the idea of attending the camp, as she notes the accommodations are "not exactly giving Michelin star vibes."

While getting settled in, Adam and Monica run into each other near the cabins. Monica immediately refers to Adam as the "competition" before introducing herself. After exchanging pleasantries, Adam tells her he'll see her around before entering a cabin.

The characters later reunite when the host of the competition delivers a rundown on how the camp works.

"Welcome to Camp Evergreen's Campfire Cookoff. You'll be competing in various challenges," the host says. "The family with the highest score will win a very special prize."

While the competition seems simple enough, things go awry for both Monica and Adam. During a challenge, Monica asks her daughter if she's paying attention to the preparation as the teen scrolls on her phone. Meanwhile, Adam and his son have a cooking snafu as Adam burns their meat. The judge pokes at the blackened surface.

"It's seared," Adam explains.

As camp continues, Adam and Monica bond over being single parents.

"I feel for you, I'm struggling to manage one," Adam tells he, before she asks if he is a "single parent" as well, to which he replies, "Is it that obvious?"

Adam also opens up about bringing his son to the camp as a chance for them to "finally connect."

"Maybe he just needs that routine. And it doesn't mean that you can't adapt," Monica tells Adam who says that's "great advice."

As the competition progresses, Monica and Adam continue to grow closer. Monica calls him an "amazing dad" and the pair share an intimate moment by the fire, they stare longingly into each other's eyes.

While Summer Sparks doesn't premiere until next month on Roku, Metcalfe gave Us some insight into his experience while working on the project.

"I'm certainly no stranger to a rom-com, but Summer Sparks is a rom-com that delivers on multiple levels and really hits you in the feels," he exclusively tells Us. "The opportunity to play a single father desperately trying to connect with his son is what drew me to the project."

The actor adds this was his "first time working with Roku, and it was a great experience."

"They were collaborative, supportive, and wonderful partners throughout the process," he explains. "I can't wait for people to see this movie."

Davis, for her part, echoes similar sentiments.

"Working on this film has been an absolute joy from start to finish," Davis exclusively tells Us. "The experience of bringing this beautiful story to life alongside such a talented cast and dedicated crew was truly unforgettable. At its heart, this is a story about family, connection, friendship, and finding love in unexpected places. I can't wait for audiences to join us on this heartfelt journey and experience all the laughter, warmth, and magic that unfolds at cooking camp."

Summer Sparks premieres on Roku on Tuesday, July 7.
